Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.

How to be an
Explorer of the World
Portable Art Life Museum By Keri Smith
This is me
in my secret explorer disguise…..
I like this book because it helps me to see my
world as a fascinating place full of wonders and delightful things. It helps me
to use perspective
to
see common everyday things as inspiring and precious; you just have to notice. I used to think that I needed to travel to faraway
places to have an adventure like my sister who has been to every continent! Now I think that there is an adventure in
observing and understanding stuff right where I am. The book says that everything is interesting, if use
your mind and remain curious. Sometimes I do not appreciate my surroundings
and am BORED! But this book encourages me to be
grateful. It is a delightful challenge
to “observe
the world around us as if we have never seen it before.”
Another
cool thing about this book is that the reader is a co-author. You get to write
in it and make it your own. For example
in the first exploration the author Keri Smith tells the reader to “write 10 things
about where you are sitting - right now
– fast! Use as many senses as you can.”
Go…..
be an explorer of the world……
Be principled. Be caring. Have integrity.
(Be good. Be nice. Behave.)
