Nutrition
February 25, 2015
Hello Fourth Graders,
Think about what you eat. Think about the options you have for lunch everyday. Do you have a fruit or vegetable for lunch? On Monday's blog, we talked about fruits and vegetables and how nutritious they are for you bodies. Cookie Monster said so!!!!!!
My class and other fourth grade classes are doing a Healthy Habits Log for the week. If you are making healthy choices for lunch make sure you mark it on your log. It's important that we take care of our bodies and eat healthy food.
Here is a Brain Pop video about Nutrition. After watching the video, discuss with your class how you make nutritious choices throughout the day.

Book Talk Tuesday

It's Book Talk Tuesday!!! Today we are featuring Mrs. Brown.
It's Book Talk Tuesday!!! Today we are featuring Mrs. Brown.
I have just recently finished the book called I am
Malala: The Girl who Stood Up for
Education and was Shot by the Taliban.
This autobiography was written by Malala Yousafzai, a 15
year old girl who is from Pakistan. She
is a young activist who fought for girls’ education rights in Pakistan. Her fierce determination to make the world a better place made her the
target of the Taliban. They wanted to silence her, so they attempted to murder
her, but one bullet passed through her forehead and barely missed her
brain. For several weeks she was on the
verge of death. After Malala recovered,
she said, “ I realized what the Taliban had done, now I want to take my
campaign global.”
Malala has won many awards including the Nobel Peace Prize.
(She is the youngest person to be nominated for the Peace Prize!)
The book that I read was written for adults, but here is a
children’s version as well. You will be
so inspired by her commitment to change the world!
Thank you Mrs. Brown for sharing!

Healthy Habits
February 23, 2015
Good Morning Fourth Graders,
In your classes you have been discussing and learning about Health. Think about your healthy habits throughout the week. How much do you exercise during the week? Did you wash your hands before meals? How much sleep do you get in a week? Discuss these questions with your class.
Also, think about healthy foods. Do you bring a healthy snack to school? Do you eat enough fruits and vegetables?

Dance Cam
February 20, 2015
Hello Risk-Takers!
Yesterday we reviewed the PYP Learner Profile. Some classes were able to reflect on strengths and areas to grow in. I am proud of the community we belong to. We are citizens that know our actions matter. Continue reflecting and making good choices and changes in your lives. It is never too late to do the right thing.
I wanted to make the connection between Good-Fit Friday and being risk takers. Today our clip shows people in New York City dancing at different sporting events. If you were caught on a 'Dance Cam' (jumbo-tron), how would you dance? After watching the clip, show your classmates your best moves!

PYP Profiles
February 19, 2015
Good morning PYP students,
As students of the Primary Years Programme we strive to do our best learning everyday and to be the best people we can be. The PYP Learner Profile is a list of attributes that really describe being the best we can be. This is a great time of the year to review the Learner Profile.
We strive to be:
Risk takers, thinkers, principled, open-minded, knowledgeable, communicators, reflective, balanced, caring, and inquirers.
Here is an example of a poster in a fifth grade classroom. Each section describes the profiles. How are you and your classmates living the profile? Is there a way you could demonstrate the profiles with actions or visuals?
Today reflect on one of the profiles. How can you live that profile today at school? How will your actions show this profile?
When we ALL do better, we ALL do better.

Well, Better Late Than Never, Book Talk Wednesday
February 18, 2015
Good morning thinkers,
Thank you for your patience with postponing "Book Talk Tuesday." I am sure many of you have been waiting and wondering about the historical fiction book I am reading! ;)
I am reading THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE by Julie Orringer. This book is about a young man, Andras, and his journey from Hungary to Paris. He has won a scholarship to attend college and study architecture. The story is set during World War II during the Holocaust. Andras is a Hungarian Jewish man whose life is changed forever.
One review I read about the book said, "... the power of this book is that it will make you appreciate your warm bed, your clean sheets and each meal and trip to the grocery store by portraying what it was like when all these things were unavailable."
I am not very far into the book and already want to know more about him and how he will change during this life altering experience. I am also wondering what PYP attitudes and concepts I will see that will allow Andras to persevere through World War II.

Good readers make connections. Think. Do you have any real-life connections to Andras? What little have I told you? He has won a scholarship. He is interested in architecture/design. He is Jewish. He faces a life changing experience.

This Just In!!
February 17, 2015
Good morning inquirers!
Book Talk Tuesday has been rescheduled for 'Well, Better Late, Than Never Wednesday Book Talk!' Stay tuned for Mrs. Applequist's book talk about THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE.
We'd like to take time this morning to very warmly and graciously welcome Mrs. Brown back to our fourth grade community! Please be gentle and sincere when you are welcoming her back to school. Have empathy and think about what you say and what your body language shares. What will your message to her be? We are so happy you're back, or do you kind of wish you were at home still?!?!
Welcome back, Mrs. Brown!

Welcome back, Mrs. Brown!
We will begin a four day WIN switch today. Before specialist your teacher will tell you where to go. Please remember our WIN Essential Agreements. It is important for us all to work on self management in order to be safe in the hallways before and after the WIN switch. What should the hallways look and sound like before and after WIN?
Last, if you brought blue applications for Young Authors, remember to turn them into your teachers.

Sharing Chromebooks
February 11, 2015
The Fourth grade teachers are more than happy to share Chromebooks with other classrooms. However, when you borrow Chromebooks it's important to remember....
1. When you enter the classroom, don't distract the teacher.
2. Walk quietly into the room.
3. Make sure when you return the Chromebook, you plug it in.
4. Carry the Chromebook properly, with both hands, and one at a time.
Sharing is caring, but be responsible with our school materials.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Be good. Be have. Behave.

Book Talk Tuesday
February 10, 2015
It's Book Talk Tuesday! Mrs. Larson has a book to talk about.
One of my favorite places in the twin cities is Half Price Books. On my last shopping trip I picked up a copy of Amy Poehler's new book. I was excited to read it because biographies are my favorite genre.
Amy and I have a lot in common. We are both from Boston and we are the same age. Though she is divorced, rich, and a TV star, but I am not. (I would do a Venn diagram for you but I'm typing this on my iPhone and it's too complicated !:))
I love to read books about comedians. I have read the biographies of Jerry Seinfeld, Kathy Griffin, Tina Fey, and Joan Rivers. (Rest in peace, Joan)
Talk to your neighbor and discuss the different comedians that you enjoy. Is there a person in your family that makes you laugh?
It's Amy!!!
