Book Talk Tuesday...

April 5, 2016

BTT is on hold for a couple weeks! It will return at the completion of MCAs!

Hello Thinkers!
Have you ever heard the saying, "Figuratively speaking?" Or when someone is talking and says, "... literally!!!" What do those two sayings mean?

We use figurative language to liven up our words. It makes what we are saying or writing more descriptive. Figurative means the words being said or written are really just giving you more details/description. Literal means the words mean exactly what they say.

Practice a little...
It is raining cats and dogs!
It is raining really hard.

I'm so hungry, I could eat a cow!
I'm starving.

The moon is as round as a ball.
It is a full moon.

There are several types of figurative language. Here is a video clip about similes and metaphors. Both similes and metaphors are used to compare things.

Similes and Metaphors

Really listen when people are talking to you! Can you find figurative language around you?

Be good. Be nice. Behave.
