Hello!
Book Talk Tuesday comes to us from Mrs. Applequist's class!
We are currently reading THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX written by St. Paul native, Kate DiCamillo. Our very first read aloud was also by this author, BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE.
A few things about our current read aloud so far...
Setting: a castle a very long time ago
Characters: Despereaux and his family, Princess Pea, the king
Problem: Despereaux is in LOVE with Princess Pea
Author's Purpose: To entertain readers!
Character Traits of Despereaux:
Physical ~ tiny, huge ears, wide opened eyes
Personality ~ thoughtful, dreamer, affectionate, smart
Fact: Kate DiCamillo wrote this book for her friend's sone.
Opinion: Despereaux is the COOLEST mouse ever!
We could go on and on with the reading skills we've learned so far! In fact, if you've read this book try it! Compare/contrast Despereaux with Mickey. You can also think of main idea/details and even put some of the events in order. Strong readers do all of these things when they read! It really helps our brains and hearts understand the characters and stories better.
Would you or your class like to appear on BOOK TALK TUESDAY? If your class would like to do one together, your teacher can email it to me. If you'd like to do one alone or with friends, I have a form for you to fill out. This is a perfect ACTION to take during I Love to Read Month!
Be good. Be nice. Behave.
