Celebration of Learning

March 14, 2016

Hello!
It was really great seeing most of you at conferences and our Celebration of Learning. We really do have a lot to celebrate in third grade! It's hard to believe we are in the third trimester. Ooooh! Make a connection between trimesters in school and fractions! What fraction of the school year are we finished with? What fraction do we have left?

Today is a great day for another pep talk from Kid President! Some of you may have seen this one, but his message is pertinent. Listen carefully... and think about our PYP Action Cycle!

Book Talk Tuesday

March, 8, 2016

This week BTT is coming to you from Aiz and Ari L. in Mrs. Applequist's class! Thank you so much girls, for taking time to share this with us!!

Together we read CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM by Bill Martin and John Archambault. The illustrations were done by Lois Ehlert. This book is all about the alphabet! There isn't enough room on the coconut tree for all of the alphabet. We liked this book because it is really fun. The connections we made was that we also like to climb trees! You will really like this book if... you read it!!!

Seussville

March 4, 2016

Hello Creative Thinkers,
This week we wrapped up I Love to Read Month, and some of us celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. Reading is such an important lifelong skill... and believe it or not, you will read for purpose and read for pleasure for the rest of your life!

Think of all the things you read each week without even realizing you're reading:
menus, signs when you're shopping, billboards, names of restaurants and shops, text messages, and lots more! Then add the things you know you're reading... books, magazines, stuff on the internet and tv... and lots more!!!

Teaching children to read was so important to Dr. Seuss. In fact, that's why he started writing books to begin with! His very first book included every letter sound and several sound combinations! Enjoy the link for more information about Dr. Seuss!

Reading Train

March 3, 2016

Hello Readers!
The reading train yesterday was an awesome way to end I LOVE TO READ MONTH!!! It was so cool seeing our entire community reading together. During DEAR this last month I've been re-reading a book called WONDER. Everyday I was so excited for DEAR and couldn't wait to get back into my book.

Let's compare and contrast...
What are the similarities between DEAR and Read-to-Self?
What are the differences?
Which do you like better?

Parts of a Whole

March 2, 2016

Hello One-Sixth of Lincoln Center Students,
I am so excited to be working with fractions in math! Fractions are one of my favorite math concepts because it was one of the hardest for me when I was in third grade! But you know what, a little bit of hard work and a lot of GRIT helps us all to be successful learners.

How do you think I came up with one-sixth in the greeting? What do you think the 'one' means? And, the 'sixth?'

Enjoy this little diddy about fractions!

Book Talk Tuesday

March 1, 2016

Hello Readers!
How do you pick the books you read? Teachers have given you some ideas this year like looking at the cover, reading the synopsis on the back, or asking friends. Sometimes, I just go online and look at Reading Rainbow on You Tube. I mentioned before this was one of my favorite shows as a child. It was so cool to see other children that loved reading as much as I did! If you're ever looking for a good book, try googling Reading Rainbow.

Here's something... a few weeks ago I invited you to participate in Book Talk Tuesdays... Mrs. Moen's class did one, and a couple of my students are preparing one. The offer is still there! If you're interested let me or your teacher know!
