'Adapting' to Weather

Good morning inquirers!
We are all digging into our first Unit of Inquiry: Adaptations. We are wondering and asking questions, finding answers and learning about how plants and animals adapt to survive. Well, it seems like a fitting time to study this unit in Minnesota! When we woke up this morning, many of us probably felt a little cooler than usual. And by cool, I mean COLD, not coooooool!

How will you adapt to live comfortably in all seasons in Minnesota. Fall is here! But, not for long. Old Man Winter will be here before we know it!

Introducing Book Talk Tuesday

Hello third graders,
Every Tuesday we are going to feature adult readers on the blog. When we are younger, we learn to read. That shifts a little as we get older and become better readers. As adults we often read to learn!

At home I am re-reading an auto-biography called, I AM MALALA. A young girl named Malala Yousafzai wrote this book to share her experience taking action to promote education in her community. She lived the PYP Profile, even though she was not a PYP student!

Where Malala comes from, education for girls is not a priority or even a right. Think about yourself at school. Here, education is your right. You have the right to learn. What is your plan to be your best learner?

Monday!

Hello 3rd Graders,
Have you ever listened to a story about a special memory? A story where the details helped you visualize exactly what it would have been like to be there? Stories that are written about special memories or experiences are called Personal Narratives. We are going to be listening to a lot of personal narratives this week and will also start writing our own.

People often enjoy telling their stories. It will be fun to write and hear everyone's story!

Hopes & Dreams

Good morning 3rd Grade Citizens,
Each of us has come up with our Hopes & Dreams for 3rd Grade. We've talked about where we are today and where we will be someday. It is exciting to think of the places we'll go!

Hopes & Dreams really help our community of learning because we can all support each other's goals. It is important to have big goals for our whole school too.

Thinking about Lincoln Center, what would be important to help support all learners?
What would Lincoln Center look like, sound like, and feel like?

Talk with your class and put together your thoughts. We will share our 3rd Grade thoughts with our new PYP coordinator, Ms. Tiffany. Each grades thoughts will be displayed somewhere in our school!

Make today great!!

Looks like, Sounds like, Feels like....

Howdy partners!
What did that make you think of? Did you see a picture in your head? What if I said, "Yippee-I-Oh cowboy!" to you really loud and long? Did you see a picture in your head? How about if I said, "Boy, these baked beans sure smell good!!" Did it make you think of a time you had beans?

Readers and listeners should practice VISUALIZING what they are reading and hearing. We create pictures in our heads of what we think things would look like. Somehow, this helps our brains understand, or comprehend, it better.

Sometime today, take a minute to watch these children VISUALIZING with their teacher. It's always fun to see what other classes look like!
